Summer in Charlotte is the perfect time to go outside, enjoy the amazing weather, and take in all of the fun things to do in the Queen City. In particular, Charlotte plays host to a number of limited music and food events that are must-sees. With that in mind, here are the four limited-time events and festivals that you should be certain to catch this season:
For the Music Lover: The Charlotte Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Pops Series
Lovely weather plus Charlotte’s world-class symphony: what could be better? This summer, the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra will be holding a series of five outdoor concerts at Symphony Park in SouthPark to allow Charlotte residents to bask in beautiful music and gorgeous weather. As part of their Summer Pops series, the Charlotte Symphony has chosen a different theme for each Sunday in June, including classic Hollywood themes, famous jazz standards, iconic Broadway show tunes, and the sounds of Star Wars. In honor of the nation’s birthday, the Charlotte Symphony will be holding a special concert featuring patriotic favorites on July 1st entitled “Celebrate America!”. So, bring a picnic basket and a blanket, and enjoy music al fresco.
For the Foodie: Taste of Charlotte and Charlotte Restaurant Week
Charlotte residents who enjoy a little culinary adventure can rejoice and take advantage of the city’s two summer dining events. The first, Taste of Charlotte, brings together samples from over 100 of the area’s best restaurants as well as cooking demonstrations, live music, street performances, shopping opportunities, and more. Located in uptown Charlotte on Tryon Street, this three-day festival will be held from June 9th through June 11th. Best of all, admission to the festival is free; simply purchase festival coins to try out some of the best food that Charlotte has to offer.
If the samples at Taste of Charlotte merely whetted your palate, you also have Charlotte Restaurant Week to look forward to. This twice-yearly event will be held from July 21st to July 30th. With over 130 of Charlotte’s top restaurants participating, you can snag a gourmet three-course dinner for just $30.
For the Movie Buff: Movies Under the Stars
Those that miss the classic drive-in movie can come close to replicating the experience at one of Charlotte’s many free outdoor movie events this summer. While there are almost a dozen options to choose from, two stand out thanks to their setting and movie selection. The first, Symphony Park at SouthPark, turns one of Charlotte’s most beautiful parks into an outdoor movie theater each Friday in August.
Want to enjoy a craft beer and some fine artisanal cheese and charcuterie as you watch your movie? Craft Tasting Room and Growler Shop puts on a different movie every Friday at sundown all summer long. With Hollywood staples such as Dial M for Murder, action adventure classics like Jaws, and modern comedies such as Anchorman, everyone can find a movie screening to enjoy.
